Alexa toolbar in Windows XP

Martin

When I run Adaware 6 and Spybot S&D 1.2 they alert me to
the Alexa Toolbar components that are integrated into
Internet Explorer. Does the Alexa toolbar have adware or
spyware components? Is it better to remove Alexa Toolbar
components? Are there any detrimental issues with
continuing to run the Alexa Toolbar in Interent Explorer?
Thank you.

Martin,
Because Alexa integrates into your Internet Explorer browser and updates
site-specific information, Ad-aware will see this as spyware. So do I for
that matter. I wouldn't use it but who am I?

You can choose "ignore this from future detections" and still be safe.

IE uses the Alexa engine to support its 'relevant sites' facility. Tell
AdAware to add the registry entry that results to its Ignore list.
It's at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Extensions\{c95fe080-85fd
etc
You can then check for anything else that might be related to using it
for spyware
