AGP / Display Shutdown on P4S8X-X

Hi all,

I have the following system

Intel P4 3.06 Ghz HT Enabled
ASUS P4S8X-X (AGP 8X)
512MB PC2700
NVidia 4800 SE AGP 8X
420W PSU
CL Audigy 2
Thermaltake Xaser III Case ( 7 cooling fans! )
Win XP Home

All the latest drivers are installed (including SiS AGP and Mini IDE for
motherboard) but... I have the following problem.

Whilst playing games (UT2003 mostly), The monitor will randomly go into
standby mode (display goes black and monitor power light goes yellow). The
video display then refuses to come back on until the PC is reset and the
monitor turned off and on. It doesn't happen mid game, more usually when
begining a new level / map. I'm guesing it's an AGP or Nvidia issue, but I
can't pin it down.

Any ideas anyone? I've seen a few forum sites with similar probs on the same
motherboard, but haven't found a solution yet?

One thing I did notice is that the Nvidia 4800SE should support AGP Fast
writes, and there is an option in my Bios for AGP Fast Writes enabled, but
SiSoft Sandra reports AGP Fast Writes are not enabled?

TIA

I have the same motherboard/CPU setup in my backup system, and I get
the same problem only with Links LS 2001. I don't know what is
causing it but I do know that of all the programs and diagnostic
programs I have run on the system, it is only Links that does it to
me, the only work around I found was to disable the Hyper threading in
Bios. Now I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the Hyper
threading, it could be the SIS chipset or a unsolved bug in the Bios
that might be causing the issue.
If you disable the Hyper threading, you may not notice it in your day
to day use but if you run benchmarking programs, you will notice your
scores will take a big hit.

Same motherboard and CPU in your Backup system? What the heck do you have in
your main system?!?
I'll experiment with the Hyperthreading in the Bios and see how it goes.

Thanks

Does the BIOS have an option to disable APM(Advanced Power
Management)?
If so try disabling it.This is,"Not" the same as ACPI in the bios.
