Agp 8x Videocard on a 4x Slot .. Work Yes/No

I have here an Nvidia Geforce 6600GT 256MB agp 8x.
And i have an motherboard 4x slot.

My question was

Will it work / fit yes or no.. and the speed of the card is 1ghz..
will it split in 2 if i put it in the slot yes or no..

Yes, providing your power supply has enough juice for this
significant upgrade, it is technically workable.
and the speed of the card is 1ghz..

Hmmmm. Odd question, but given the two alternatives I'd
have to choose "no".

Can you elaborate on what you are asking?

If what you mean is, will running an 8X card in a 4X slot be
much of a performance loss, the answer is no, 4X is almost
as fast and since your system is old enough to have only 4X
slot, it is most likely the rest of the system will be the
bottleneck, not the video card or the AGP slot speed.

The 8X video card is fully backward compatible with a 4X motherboard AGP
slot. It will work fine. I have the same card in my 4X AGP slot.
