Age of Empires II install problem

Hello,

I had installed AOE II on a secondary hard drive and it worked fine. The
hard drive eventually crashed and I lost everything. I could not properly
uninstall the game (obviously), but removed it from my program list. Now I
am trying to reinstall the game on my primary hard drive, and run into an
error every time I run setup. When setup reaches the "Calculating Disk
Space" step, I get a popup that says "Microsoft Age of Empires II
AutoRun/Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close..." etc. When I
click for more details, it lists Appname: ebu49.exe, and under Exception
Information shows Code: 0xc0000094.

My computer has 3 GB of space free, so that's not the issue. If anyone
could offer any help I would greatly appreciate it! I've hardly played the
game :(

Hi Cariadlawn,

Here's how to uninstall a game when using Add-Remove programs fails:

Step A: Start your computer in Safe Mode by holding down the F8 key.

Step B: Reinstall the game to the same folder it was installed to originally,
and then try to uninstall it again using Add-Remove programs. If
that fails, delete it's folder and any save games in My Documents.

Step C: Install and Run Regcleaner and if it finds any stray registry keys for the
game, delete them: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

Thank you for your help. I was finally able to reinstall the game! It
turned out to be an issue with the registry - there were loads of entries
left over from the first installation, and therefore it wouldn't reinstall.
This Microsoft article was somewhat helpful as well:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243287/EN-US/ Apparently the problem I had
is a known issue with this game.
