After upgrade to windows xp, can't boot normal

I finally upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows xp. Only because of windows 98
not being supported anymore. The upgrade went relatively well. When I
rebooted after the upgrade, my pc went into rolling boots. The windows xp
windows would come up then it would check the disk for errors over and over
and reboot over and over. If I come up in the safe mode windws xp would work
fine and I could use the pc. I need to figure out why I can't come up in
normal mode. SP2 is not loaded.

If you have a retail version of 98 youre all set. However to install xp,you
should
boot to xp cd,select install xp,new copy,delete the partition,create
one,then let
xp format and do a clean install.XP doesnt need or use any of the 98 OS,+ xp
runs in ntfs file system 98 uses FAT32.If you have problems now,id follow the
above, however it will ask for a 98 cd verification....

Win 98 came with the computer in 2000, bundled in the pc. If I do a clean
install of xp I'll lose all my data on the disk not just the OS, right? The
rolling boots do indicate it is FAT32. I have the key code for the win 98
load that's in the pc. Is that what yo mean by the cd verification?
