I am running XP Pro SP1 (SP2 will not install, I had to undo it after it got
about 1/2 done as it froze) I got a new game last week installed, it ran
fine. I then went to update my Video card drivers as the game recomended it,
the next time I started the computer it froze just befor the login screen. I
then restarted and XP said that it fixed the problem. Well now it takes 2-5
restarts to get any games to run. I have now updated all the drivers that I
can think of (Video card, Sound card, Mouse, Monitor) What the games do is
freeze while starting up. Could this be a windows problem? and how could I
fix it?
Thanks

Open event viewer, chk the details as to whats going on per event, click
on the url listed, this opens help/support in xp,usually with a fix or answer
to the problem. You might also, open device mgr.,chk for any exclamation
marks, this represents a problem device. What version of direct x is installed.

The only thing in event viewer that seems to be out of place is a "true
vector engine" that it could not be found. (there are a LOT of those over the
past year atleast 5 a day) that is under apps, then under system there is a
"acpi" error in the help link i get this
"Explanation
The system BIOS attempted to incorrectly access hardware resources
concurrently with the operating system. This type of access cannot be
synchronized and can cause system instability
User Action
Contact the system vendor for an updated BIOS and follow the vendor's
instructions for installation."
but then under articles it has SP2 info...
