After reinstall of SP2 do security updates need to be reloaded?

I ws running XP Pro SP2 with all the most current updates from the Microsoft
Update website. A "rogue" uninstall of a game deleted many of my files on my
C:. To recover I reinstalled XP SP 2. I assumed I would then need to
reload all the security updates from the Microsfot Update website that were
released after SP2. When I went to Microsoft Update, it said I had no
updates required.

Is this correct? Did reinstalling SP2 retain all of the post SP2 updates?

If not, how do I reload all those updates?

Yes, your previously installed updates should be OK.

To verify, use MBSA:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/mbsahome.mspx

Does MBSA really _check_ for the corresponding version of the actual
_files_? AFAIK Windows Update site only checks for registry entries.
Dunno about MBSA.

I ask that because you can simply replace a system file with an older
(buggy) version and Windows Update does not recognize that and therefore
no updates will be displayed. Still, an older version is in use and you
are at risk.

MBSA will check for the updates.
The integrity of the file versions is maintained when any update is
installed regardless the order.
At this point if MBSA shows as good, your computer is fine.
