Adware Wintools Removal

M

Marcus

Hi,

Panda on-line scan finds a registry infection: "Adware Wintools."

It doesn't remove it. There is no refence to wintools on the hard drive (via
'find'..Windows 98SE)

Registry Edit / Find comes up with nothing.

How does one remove it?

This little bugger is a real pain! I've tried running Adware, spybot and
House Call Spyware but the thing still shows up as a Registry Spyware! But
there is no indication of it even existing in the registry.

Help Sought

I have written a program that removes it completely, even with the exes
running. Let me know if you want a copy.

You keep posting this. Wintools is old. All current antivirus and
legitimate antispyware programs remove it. Even if you mean well, it
would be foolish for someone to take an executable from a stranger,
especially when that particular malware can be removed by well-known
and known-safe programs.

Why don't you install it on your computer and see if it gets completely
removed. The reason I wrote this is because no tool out there has been
able to accomplish this in our environment. At least not without two
or three reboots or a boot into safe mode, which we can't control
remotely.

Because none of my Windows machines have malware. The point I was making
was not whether or not the tool you wrote worked. As I said, you may be
well-meaning, but it would be foolish for people to take an executable
from a stranger in Usenet. If you want to offer the tool to people,
then post it on a website with an explanation of who you are, why you
wrote the tool, and release notes about it. Then post the url.
