advancing slides with video

ok, I have a ppt slide show on XP Pro service pack 3 on ppt 2003 with a few
mpg videos on like every other slide. The show works perfect when you advance
the slides with the keyboard. I have a AMX remote to advance my slides. But
for this slide show w/ the videos in it, the slide will not advance after the
video. I hit forward on the remote and the video will play. I hit forward
again and the video will pause, hit it again and the video will restart. If I
let the video play all the way to the end and then hit forward on the remote,
the video will start over and not advance to the next slide.

Is this a PPT problem w/ videos or is it a remote problem....? The remote
only has problems advancing after videos....no videos, no problems advancing
slides.

The problem you are seeing is that the video player has the focus, not
PowerPoint. With a mouse you would simply place the pointer on the slide
and advance, with a remote I have no idea how you might do it. (How about
setting the slides to auto advance after playing the video?)

What's happening is, when you click on the remote to move the slide, it's
acting like a mouse button. And the "cursor," so to speak, is in the center
fo the slide by default. When your video is also in the center of the slide,
it means the cursor is clicking on the video and not the slide. That's why
the video turns on and off and starts over -- the mouse click is controlling
the video because the "cursor" is clicking on the video. You'd have to move
the cursor over off the video to get it to move the slide instead of control
the video. But maybe you can't actually *do* that with a remote, because it
doesn't *really* give you a cursor.

So. Here's my idea. Add an exit animation to the video so it disappears
after it plays. Or, instead of the animation, right-click the movie on the
slide, choose Edit Movie Object, and click the "hide while not playing"
option. That way the movie will disappear after it plays, so the "cursor"
will be back on the slide, and the slide will advance when you click.
