Advance slide / Automatically After

PPT 2003 SP1

Presentation narration originally recorded with "Advance Slide" set to "On
Mouse Click".

On all slides, I changed "Advance Slide" to "Automatically After" and set
the number of seconds to some small positive value (3, 4), as well as cleared
the "On Mouse Click" check box. In "Slide Show", "Set Up Show", "Advance
Slides", I also selected "using timings, if present".

Now, when played back, each slide does automatically advance to the next
slide without requiring a mouse click, but not until the recorded narration
has completed.
No matter what I set the "Automatically After" value to, each slides'
narration is played in it's entirety.

How do I get PPT to honor the number of seconds I set each slides
"Automatically After" value?

Do you have the narrations set to play across multiple slides?

You can't, slide transitions based on time MUST wait for all animations
(including audio and video) to complete.
