ADSL and 6 PC Question Plz >>

I am in the process of setting up a Domain.

One Win2003 SB Server (DC)

6 XP Boxes.

One 3Com switch

and One D-link 4 Port Modem/router.

Would a 512 ADSL connection be fine for 6 PC to share?

and what would be the best way to get them all out on the net?

Maybe Server > Switch> 6 PC and Router plugged into the switch?

Thanks for any assitance.

NOTE:- Modem/Router does DHCP, but i'll allow the server to do this instead

Depends on what the PC are doing with the internet. If just browsing web
sites, 512MB is more than adequate. In fact I had 512 shared to 32 users,
that was probably the limit though.

If the users are filresharig, then 512 isn't enough for 6 users.
Audio MSN chat, is fine, approx 20kbit per user.
Video MSN chat, should be fine too 40-120kbit per user dependant on frame
rate.

Most routers can be configured for DHCP. Set the DCHP Scope (IP Range) to
192.168.0.x with a 24 bit (255.255.255.0) mask. Or choose another range in
the 192.168.x.x range.

The router will issue the comoputers with the DNS settings, and a default
gateway. Unless your doing proxying, or domain setup, you dont need a
server. Just 6 XP machines, set to DHCP. They will get an IP from the
router.

If your sure you want a server.
Set it up as a domain controller.
Create user profiles
configure DHCP on the server, default gateway is the internal IP of the
router, DNS is your server, disable routers DHCP.
configure DNS on the server, then set a forwader to your ISP's DNS Server
Build the client PC's, and join onto the domain.

You will now have total control over the user permsissions from the server.
