Adobe Photoshop 5.0 closes

Each time I try to open Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Limited edition on my 2002 Dell
Latitude it closes within seconds posting an error message and sending an
error report to the Microsoft Corporation. The standard error message says:

Adobe Photoshop Limited Edition has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The error report usually attaches a file and the file usually carries a
variation of "appcompat", for example the latest: "eb29_appcompat.txt"

The error signature is as follows:
AppName: photosle.exe AppVer: 3.0.64.101 ModName: photosle.exe
ModVer: 3.0.64.101 Offset: 00196427

I have no idea as to the cause of this problem, because it has happened with
other programs before and only once or twice and never consecutively. It is
hard to tell whether a vital file is missing or corrupted or it is a software
problem. Photoshop hasn't given me trouble before, and I want to make sure
this isn't a problem that will spread to other programs. I do not have the
option of reinstallation at the moment because my installation disks are
across the ocean, while I study abroad. I hope someone has a clue as to this
problem. I've tried searching the internet and other forums for some advice,
but this problem doesn't seem to be common, or at least documented. Any help
in this matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would contact Adobe at www.adobe.com for help with this software.
