Adobe Flash Player 11.3.300.270

micky

I"m trying to shop and to watch some Olympics on Youtube, and I keep
getting a message on Firefox that I have to install Adobe Flash Player
11.3.300.268 . So I try. I dl the installer and then the whole thing,
and it says it won't install because I have a version already so I
check Control Panel / Installed Programs and it says I have v.
11.3.300.270. Newer than what they want me to install.

The videos do play in IE8.

Do I need two versions of FlashPlayer, one for IE and one for FF?

I"m afraid to uninstall v 270 because I think that might be making IE
work.

Thanks.

Yes you do. Visit <https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/> with
both browsers and follow the installation instructions for each.

Check the Flash Player applet in Control Panel.

I breezed right by that without checking a thing.

But it says the same thing, that I have 11.3.300.270, both ActiveX
and PlugIn version .

Will do.

I'm also googling 11.3.300.270 . Didn't think of that
before. There are several hits. AFter I've read them and your url,
I'll reply to Bill in Co.

Thanks.

Yes, there are different versions for FF and IE.
But your version is newer than the one requested, which doesn't add up.

I found that .270 was released to address a crash. Still strange that
when I click on You need another plug-in, it says I need .268, and
when I go to the flash website and download there, the FF version,,
it's also .268.
There are separate downloadable versions for FF and IE. So check and see if
they show up separately in Add-Remove programs (they do over here).

In Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs, no just one. I haven't
found the shopping sites that didn't load fully, but I did try a
Youtube video that didnt' work in FF and it worked in IE.

So IE must be okay. And there must be an FF verision since when
when I try to install one, it says there is one there.
But if your FF version is newer than the one requested in FF, this is still
a bit mystifying.

It's late for me. I'll work on this tomorrow. Or maybe I'll just
wait until .271 comes out, and use IE when necessary. Many of the
youttube videos worked fine in FF, and most of the shopping pages were
there too.

I'll get back to you if I learn anything.

Oh yeah. There are 4 entries for Adobe.
Adobe Reader;
Adobe Air which it says I lasted used last December. Could be.
ActiveX 11.3.300.270
PlugiIN. the same version as ActiveX 11.3.300.270

AcitvieX and PlugIn aren't for IE and FF respectively,. are they?

Is that what you mean by separately? If so, which is which?

OKay, 268 is non-IE,and .270 is IE, so I think that means I should
Remove either the activex or the plugin (and then reinstall) but I
don't know which.

I have a hunch, though.

Download the 11.3.300.270.

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_11.3.300.270_archive.zip

There are a couple folders in there, and you want this one (release path).

11_3r300_270
flashplayer11_3r300_270_win.exe \____ These are the same thing inside
flashplayer11_3r300_270_win.msi /
flashplayer11_3r300_270_winax.exe \____ These are the same thing inside
flashplayer11_3r300_270_winax.msi /

The "win" installer is for Netscape/Firefox family browsers (plugin type).
The "winax" installer is for Internet Explorer ActiveX browsers.

I checked inside, and the .exe and .msi contain the same resource inside,
so they perform identical functions. One isn't a helper for the other or
anything. Running the .exe is enough

You run one each of the installers.

flashplayer11_3r300_270_win.exe <-- run this one to install Flash in Firefox
flashplayer11_3r300_270_winax.exe <-- run this one to install Flash in IE

Now, will that straighten out your Flash asking for the wrong version ?

I don't know the answer to that. Those are examples of manual installation
methods, not requiring "web logic" to work.

FWIW, this is why you don't see it at the regular Flash update page:

Please be aware that this release is not available from the Product
Download Center (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer) which will continue
to provide 11.3.300.268. We realize that this might cause confusion for
some users. Due to the severity of this issue, we decided to make this
build available immediately to help customers affected by this bug. Due
to logistical issues and time constraints, we were unable to update the
release on the Product Download Center. The next release of Flash
Player will correct this disparity. Please note that unless you have
been affected by the FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe crash, both
11.3.300.270 and 11.3.300.268 will be functionally identical.

This release will be distributed using the following methods:

Silent auto update - If enabled and functional, the silent auto update
service will automatically install this build within 24 hours.

Direct download - You can download the installers directly using the
links below -

You don't need to download the full version of Adobe flash. All you
need is a plugin for firefox and you can get an up to date version by
loading this page in your FF browser:

<http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/>

This page will tell you which plugin needs an update and it also gives
you a direct link to download it.

In fact, you can load the page in almost any browser to get the
necessary plugins for that browser.

Generally, it is better to avoid installing full products if you can get
by with basic installation. Full products cause more problems than
unduly necessary!!

Sorry it took so long to reply.
Silent auto update - If enabled and functional, the silent auto update

I'm tempted to just wait, but otoh, I already have v .270 in both
slots, so what am I waiting for? (Answer at the end.)
Direct download - You can download the installers directly using the
links below -
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer):
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_ax.exe
Flash Player Plug-In (All other browsers):
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe

So the bottom Fflash Playe in my installed programs list, the one not
called ActiveX, is the one is involved with FF and that doesn't work,
and so I ran the second link above, and now both entries are stil
11.3.300.270, just like they were wehn the problem started

But now FF works as well as IE does. Great. Probably solved. Thanks
Glee and everyone.

Those two above are irrelevant for this issue. Then again, I don't even
know what Adobe Air is. :)

Neither do I but I was somehow forced to install it a year ago.
I believe so. But mine are called:

Adobe Flash Player 10 plug-in (I'm still using this version for FF)
Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX (for IE)

See above. I haven't updated the FF one as I use IE much more often than I
use FF, but I probably should.

Well you will when it complains.
As you can see from the other post, I didnt' have to remove either of
them. Even though the version number didn't change, after I
installed it with Glee's link, it started working.

This is very good to know. I"m going to save the link.

Actually Glee's answer worked and I didn't try this until just now,
and I hate to say it, but, though it found 12 "vunlerable plugins"
including 4 it calls up to date, it doesn't even list Adobe Flash
Player. Maybe it would if I hadn't updated it already.

**4 more "need research", 3 are outdated (though I think I don't use
2 of those 3 anymore) and Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape is
vulnerable. I didnt think I used that anymore either, but I guess I
will run the update.

Thjs is a very nice page.

The updates at the download links I gave you are now v.271 instead of
v.270, and v.271 is what is available at the regular Flash update site
now, too. It contains a security update, so it is available at all
download locations, making this thread moot. :)
