adminstration in XP

Please clarify for me the adminstrator account.

I understand that I have a guest account, and other user
accounts with either limited or admistrator rights. But
when I use, Administrator Tools, Computer Mgmt, Local
Users and Groups, Users folder, I actually find an
account called Administrator, in addition to the other
account that has Administrator rights.

So how would I actually log on as Administrator? That
option does not come up at the XP logon screen.

And if I delete adminstrative rights from all users
accounts (since XP says it is not good to operate in
general with adminstrative rights), then how would I
access Administrator?

Thank you.

The admin account is kinda "hidden". To access it from the normal user login
screen, you can hit ctrl+alt+del twice. This will bring up the old-school NT
style login window. Make sure no other accounts are logged in.

In the user field, type "Administrator" and your administrator password. If
your OS came pre-installed, many times the Admin account will have no
pre-assigned password. If that's the case, try leaving the password field
blank and hitting enter.

If you DO add a password to this account, I would strongly suggest making it
one you remember. Write it down if you have to. This is the Godfather of all
accounts. If you lock yourself out of this one, you're hosed.

The nice thing about this account is that it THE administrator account. It
is not a user account with administrator privies. When you access this
account you are THE administrator. Master of all you survey. Overlord and
master to all the regular users. But, don't let the power go to your head.

Thanx for explanation. I will try it.

So how does this admin have more privelidges than a
regular user with admin rights?

And what mystifies me is that I searched all thru the
help screens in winxp and can find no expanation of what
you told me or how to log in as the admin. Guess they
don't want to make it easy.

I have also read the suggestion to change the name of the
admin account to something else to make it tougher for
hackers to take over your computer.
