Administrator User

Hi,

I am new to Windows XP. I have Windows XP Media edition. By mistake, i
renamed the Administrator user to Admin. When i now go and rename that
to Administrator, i get a error message that the user already exists.

When i look at the local disk, i can see there is a folder with name
Administrator. Even if i rename that folder to something else, i still
get the same error. Is there any way to rename the Admin user name to
Administrator.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I am basing this answer that the Media Edition is XP Professional with media
added.
Admin is not the Administrator account.
Control panel>>Administrative Tools>>Computer Management>>Local users and
groups>>Users>>>>highlight admin right click choose rename.

I see both Admin, and Administrator users on that screen. How can i
create back the Administrator Account, as the Account does not exist;
but i see it on the users list. Since Administrator is still there, i
cannot rename Admin to Administrator.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

WindowsXP creates an Administrator account by default. This account is normally
hidden and is intended as a reserve account for troubleshooting purposes and not
meant for day to day use. As long as there is another account created with
administrator credentials the default administrator account will remain hidden
and can be accessed via Safe Mode or by typing Ctrl+alt+del twice at the welcome
screen.

So the best advise is to choose another name for the new account.
