Administrator privileges problem?

My daughter has come home from uni with a problem PC. The power supply has
been faulty (it was switching itself off at random), so I have replace that.
The Nrton AV software had expired, so I bought a new copy and installed that.
In addition, the Office Professional Edition 2003 which I had previously
installed seems to have disappearded from her PC! It's not shown in the list
of programs that can be run, nor is it shown under "add or remove software".
When I tried to re-install it, I get an error message stating "Install did
not complete properly" (an error report was sent). When I search the hard
disk under My Computer, I can locate all the files under Program Files
(Office11). If I click on the Excel icon, it launches Excel with a message
saying "Microsoft Excel has not been installed for this user. Please run
setup ton install the application", but setup will not work (despite me
keying in the correct product key).
I have posted this Q on another MS site and received a few suggestions but
none of these have helped. I can confirm that both my daughter and I appear
to have administrator privileges on her PC and I have downloaded and
installed new software (MSN Messenger) without any problem. The main problem
seems to be the re-install of the Office 2003 suite, though I have also
discovered that Norton Systemworks isn't running as it should (Speeddisk
doesn't launch, though WinDoctor and DiskDoctor work fine). Any suggestions
anyone?

If your main problem is the re-installation of MS Office then I recommend
you repost in an MS Office newsgroup.

It seems that the software was installed under a different account than the
one you're logged-on with now.

Otherwise I cannot explain why the software is on the puter but gives a
message like: "Microsoft Excel has not been installed for this user."

The install has apparently been done for the active user only rather than
for general use by all accounts.

It is not so much whether you have administrator privileges, but under what
account was the Office software installed.
