Administrator Password

Scooter

I just received a used notebook computer from my brother.
The notebook had Windows 2000 Pro loaded on the system.
The first thing I did was to change the administrator
password on the system. After making the change, the
system ask me to reboot, and when I got to the log-in
dialog...I typed in the new password. It did not work!
The old password does not work either. Now I am stuck.
How do I get out of this.

Verify that you are logging into that machine and not onto a domain. you
can do this by using the notation

UserName@ComputerName or verifying that the scroll box on the login
screen is showing the ComputerName and not the domain name.

Other option is to reinstall the machine.

try the local logon, if no joy, try this..:

Q321305 How to Log On to Windows XP If You Forget Your
Password

US;Q321305

http://securityadmin.info/faq.htm#password

Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password
blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel and
delete/change the
password.

You do not need to reinstall if you forgot the admin or
any other password.

There is a boot disk you can download at:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

that will let you reset the password of any account on
NT4, Windows2000 or
XP.

Just follow all the default settings which are for the
admin account.

For an Win2k AD domain controller, you need to do more
than that:
