administrator account

I have been using the administrator account as my normal user account since I
got my new computer with XP Professional on it. After reading over and over
that it is not such a good idea to do this, I created another account to use
instead. It made me give this account administrator rights, but when I
restarted and logged on, the original administrator account was gone and I
cannot find it again. This new account won't let me do anything now and none
of my programs are installed on it. What happened to my original
administrator account? It still shows under Documents and Settings. HELP!!!
Thank you,
Marcia

It's hidden itself cause it knows you finally made an admin account to use. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete twice at the welcome screen.

Thank you! In addition, depending on your needs:

Press Control/Alt/Delete Twice for Pro and Boot into safe mode and login for
Home.

TweakUI/Logon/Show Administrator on the Welcome Screen

Or...

Enable/Disable Administrator on Welcome Screen (Line 5)

That is normal. The account *called* Administrator is a reserve account
for emergencies, and should not be used day to day. You can get at it
if either (as you have Pro) you hit CTL-ALT-DEL twice at Welcome to get
the old style logon, and log on explicitly there, or if you boot to Safe
Mode. What I would then do is

a:
Open its profile folder up - C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator,
also the one for your new account, and copy contents of such folders as
StartMenu, Desktop, My Documents Application data, Local Settings
across. You will need to rename the Administrator.wab file in Address
book. Also run Outlook Express, in Tools - Options - Maintenance click
Store Folder and Move that onto 'neutral ground'

b: Run regedit.exe, highlight HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ and File - Export it
to a file outside this Documents and settings (Ie not in My Documents)

Logout and in under your new account, and Import the registry material
back again. Set the OE Store folder to match where you have now put it.

Once you have checked out that all is working you should then be able to
back off the files from the Administrator profile which you copied,
(being very sure not to touch the ntuser.dat in the root of it) and
retain it for its proper reserve purpose
