Administrator Account

Using Win 2000 Server

After having renamed the Built-in Administrator account, I am still able to
log in with the Username "Administrator" as well as the new name I gave the
account. The default Admin account shows up with the new name and there is
no account with the name Administrator ,yet I can log onto the domain using
the username Administrator.

Any enlightenment GREATLY appreciated!

Did you change the name of the local Administrator, or the
Domain Administrator? And what are you logging into, the
local machine or the Domain?

Hi Rich,

First, I want to confirm the administrator you changed is the administrator
of the domain or the administrator of the Windows 2000 server local?

And, whether the Windows 2000 server you are using is the domain controller?

If you rename the domain administrator account and you have more than one
domain controllers in the network, the changes will take some time to be
replicated to other domain controllers.

We can force the domain replication. You can refer to the article:

227448 Using Secedit.exe to Force Group Policy to Be Applied Again

Please also check whether you change the administrator name as the
following steps:

320053 HOW TO: Rename the Administrator and Guest Account in Windows 2000

If you change the local administrator account, you need to restart the
computer to make the changes take effect.

Thanks for using Microsoft Newsgroup!
