My neighbor rebooted our computer after it crashed and we got it gixed. he
set up two users and only one has administrative rights and he also set up a
password that none of us can remember. Is there a was to retrieve it? We can
get on the web and things but we can't install anything like the program for
our camera or update adobe reader. it won't let us download or install
anything because the only user we can use does not have administrative
rights. how do we get this back so we all have rights?

If you have XP Home version installed then you should be able to boot into
Safemode and access the Administrator account. By default XP Home version
creates an Administrator account when it is installed. This account is
hidden unless you boot to SafeMode. Once you gotten to the log on screen you
will see the Administrator account listed. It does not have a password. Just
click on it and you will access the Safemode desktop. From there go to
Control Panel->User accounts and reset the password on the other accounts.
You can change your account to an Administrator account from there as well.

If you have XP Pro version then you will need to hack the password. The
livecd version of this app http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ will allow you
to boot the computer with the livecd it creates. It will reveal the password
for you without having to reset it.
