Where to begin...?

I really like using the 'presenter view' option when running a slide show;
however, since I activated the function (or at least it would seem so) my
presentation is displayed in a vertical 'letterbox' both on my laptop AND the
projected display. By 'letterbox', i mean there are two black gaps on the
left and right sides of the show.

This is frustrating as it reduces the size of the displayed show! Even
without using presenter view, the show is still displayed with the black gaps
either side.

It isn't the resolution, because no matter what resolution I select, the
'letterbox' is still present. All the resolution can do is stretch the image
to cut out the black gaps. This is not a viable option as finding an
appropriate resolution is near impossible!

Has anyone experienced the 'clipping' effect on either side of their show?
If so, what causes it? and, How can I fix it?

Hope this will cheer you up..............
I like the picture to fill the slide and retain the aspect ratio. This is
how I do it (in PowerPoint 2002):

INSERT | NEW SLIDE | FORMAT | BACKGROUND | click on arrow for dropdown menu
| select FILL EFFECTS | PICTURE tab | click SELECT PICTURE | click on name
of desired picture file | INSERT | check "Lock Aspect Ratio" | OK | APPLY.

It works.........

Is it a wide screen laptop?

Few projectors can work at the wide screen ratios so I'm guessing that
PowerPoint has adjusted the Page Set Up values. Depending on your version
Page SetUp is in the File menu or Design Tab
