Address Book

I switched from a Windows 98 computer to a Windows 2000 computer and I
imported my Windows 98 Outlook Express address book to the Windows 2000
Computer.
Importing the folders and Address Book went OK except, in the Windows 98
computer my address book had several folders, when I imported all the address
are in one folder, the Main Identity's Contacts Folder.
I have the correct Address Book (*.wab file), if I knew where Windows 2000
stored the Address Book for Outlook Express, I guess I could just change it.
But, I can not find where it is stored.
Any Suggestions??? HELP HELP

It may be in a hidden folder in Windows 2000 -- make sure you enable
searching within hidden folders when looking for .wab files.

This newsgroup is actually for Microsoft Office Outlook, which is a
completely separate program from Outlook Express despite the unfortunately
similar name. If my tip doesn't help, or for future OE questions, you might
want to try http://www.insideoe.com for assistance and links to Outlook
Express newsgroups. Good luck!

You are correct, I found it as a hidden folder. Then I deleted and put in the
correct book and it worked fine.
Actually, my goal is to convert to MS Outlook, my problem is I send email
to various groups and I keep it in separate folders to make it easier.
I now use MS Outlook for my mobile IPAQ and sync it to my computer which is
nice, because I can update my mobile IPAQ on a large screen. I use
categories in MS Oultook on my IPAQ, I just can't figure how to pull up a
category in MS Oultlook like I do in Outlook Exopress.
Any suggestions?

In general you can use the built-in By Category view for many folders, or you
can use a filtered view to only show one category. If you tell me more about
what exactly you'd like to see, I can help you set it up.

I like the way address book works in Outlook Express. I have several folders
and I can go to a folder and send emails to one or all people in that folder
I could use the categories to do the same thing but I can not figure out how.
Any Suggestions?

If you use the By Category view of your contacts, you can select an entire
category by clicking on its group header, then use Actions | New Message to
Contact to send a message to everyone in that category.

I tried the suggestion and it worked as you said, it will send email to
everyone in that category. However, if I had a category named In-Laws and I
only wanted to send to a select few, but I wanted to see all in-Laws so I did
forget one it would be difficult.
I am using Office 2003 and when I send an email I have a choice of using
Contacts or Outlook Address Book. However, when I select Outlook Address
Book it states "No entries in this Address Book".
I know I have entries in my Outlook Express Address Book, how do I direct
MS Outlook to show the Outlook Express Address book?
Thanks
George

The Outlook Address Book is merely a container for Contacts folders. It
will never contain items other than Contacts folders. It is the Contacts
folders, shown in the Address Book by selecting a Contact folder in the
"Show Names from the" drop-down, that contain the addresses.

You don't. Outlook cannot reference the Windows Address Book. You can,
however, make the Windows Address Book (used by OE) use the Outlook Address
Book as a source instead of a Windows Address Book file.

Can I import my Windows Address Book into my Outlook Address Book? Or in the
thread below it says the Outlook Address Book contains folders from Contacts,
I can not find any folders or how to put addresses in the address book.
Thanks

You can import it into your Contacts folder. The Outlook Address Book
doesn't contain any data. It's just a view into address book-enabled
Contacts folders. Assuming it is operation in Outlook Express, in Outlook
click Tools>Import and Export>Import Internet Mail and Addresses>Next.
Select Outlook Express, uncheck Import Mail and Import Rules and click Next.
Select the duplicate handling and click Finish.
Or in the thread below it says the Outlook Address Book contains
folders from Contacts, I can not find any folders or how to put
addresses in the address book. Thanks

Right-click your Contacts folder, choose Properties, select the Outlook
Address Book tab and check the box labeled "Show this folder as an e-mail
Address Book". Click OK. The Contacts folder should now be available in
the Outlook Address Book.

You could also expand the list of contacts in a particular category, select
only the ones you want (hold down CTRL as you click names), and then use
Actions | New Message to Contact.
