Address Book Icons

Hello,

When I open the address book from Outlook Express in Windows XP I of course
get a full list of names that I have collected. Over the course of time I
have made up several "groups" which I send e-mails to and I'm now starting to
wonder whether or not they are receiving them. Upon first opening the address
book and single clicking on a groups name, a list of some of the members in
the group pop up in the regular address book review pane. If I were to double
click on that same group name another window opens up which would allow me to
add contacts and information about those contacts.

Here's what's got me guessing, a particular group has 130 members which is
noted in the second window that opens up after double clicking on the group's
name. Yet that same group which is "previewed" in the AB review pane after
just a single click only shows 25 names. When another window is opened after
a double click - showing all 135 e-mail addresses in that group - some of the
names have a "rolodex" business card icon which is basically white, with the
vast majority having that same icon only in a purple color. Click on a name
with the white card and another window opens up with several tabs that you
can add all kinds of information about that person. Click on a name with the
purple icon and no such box pops up for adding more information.

I am concerned that when I send out mass e-mail notifications to my
customers, not all of them are receiving it. Why the two colors with the
icons? Why does a white icon open up another box and the purple doesn't? How
can I be sure all my customers are receiving my notifications? (I list the
group name in the "BCC" box so I can't really be sure how many names are
included with that particular notification e-mail) Thanks for your time and
sorry for being longwinded.

At one time a freeware copy of Microsoft Office was installed but since has
been removed well over a year ago. Yes, I am using Outlook Express presently
for my e-mail.

Thanks for your interest

1. OE Help > About > Versions: What versions of the files MSOE.DLL,
INETCOMM.DLL, DIRECTDB.DLL and WAB32.DLL are displayed here (e.g.,
6.00.1234.5678)?

2a. Do you have this Registry key?...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\WAB
\WAB4

2b. If not, STOP here;

If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook (NB: no space) and is its value set
to 1 (one)?

2c. If not, STOP here;

If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with Outlook, even if
you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office). Change the value
to 0 (zero) and all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't
create it, and don't alter any other DWORD values.)

Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.
