Address bar discards text while typing URL

I'm using XP professional. Sometimes, when entering a URL, I will get part
of it entered, and suddenly it reverts back to the original URL while I'm
typing. I might enter "www." and have it suddenly disappear and get
replaced, sometimes after a short delay of a few seconds. Sometimes, I'm
completely unable to type a complete URL, even when I type the full form
including the "HTTP://" portion.

I have disabled "Search from address bar" and the auto complete option in
the options menu, but that didn't help. This seems to be an intermittant
problem. But it's very frustrating when it happens.

Any ideas?

Try turning off the Autocomplete address bar settings.

In Internet Options on the Content Tab, click the Autocomplete button, and
then uncheck the "User Autocomplete for Web addresses" checkbox.

Thanks for the suggestion - it does help, although I hate to
completely lose a feature that used to work perfectly fine.

One thing I notice even with the autocomplete disabled (and cleared)
is that I can type something, and after a delay - about 20 seconds -
it reverts back to the current URL. With autocomplete, it seems to do
this same thing, but much faster. Can anyone see if this happens with
them?

Thanks,
