adding to blocked sender very slow

Using Outlook 2003 I frequently add emails to blocked senders list.

Recently (no new changes that I can think of) adding an email address to my
blocked sender list has slowed down terribly.

Just adding one email to blocked sender (right click, J, B) takes about 10
seconds.

Anyone run into this? (I run Norton 360 and Spyware Doctor).

How many names are on the list? The max for all lists is about 2000.

Adding names to the blocked senders list is pointless - they keep changing
the from address.

Well, I exported my blocked senders list and checked and there are some 3400
email addresses or domains on the list.

But, I have to say that Outlook went from adding a name to the list in about
a millisecond to taking over 10 seconds rather all at once as opposed to just
slowing down over time.

I do like adding certain emails or domains to my blocked sender list as it
does cut down on the junk from places like citibank or other places that send
out tons of junk.

I wouldn't think that the number of entries in the blocked sender list would
slow down the process of just adding another name, but I don't know - not
that kind of tech savvy.

The proper use of the blocked list is for things you signed up for but can't
get signed off from - generally speaking, this list should not contain more
than a dozen or so domains - certainly not close to 3400. These will be
from domains that never change and it should be domains, not the full email
address. Using citibank as an example, you want citibank.com on the list,
not (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed) etc.

It's hard to say why it suddenly slowed down - it could be something with
the antivirus software you use or a recent windows update.
