Adding tcp/ip only printer

K

Kevin

Hey there,

This may be a dumb question.... but I was told to network
a Savin 9945DP multifunction printer... there are no
drivers for it... it has a built in nic card and
supposedly is compantible with a windows environment.. I
can ping the printer.. but I cannot find the printer on
the network to add it... I tried typing in the ip
address during network printer setup.. but that does not
work... how would I go about getting this printer to work
in a all windows environment. Thanks for the help.

Most likely, the printer's network adapter (nic) does not implement the
Windows Network Printing protocols. This quite common for printer network
adapters.

You need to add the printer as a Local Printer on a (new) Standard TCP/IP
port. In the Add Printer dialog, select Local Printer, then Create a new
port and select Standard TCP/IP port from the drop down list. Key the IP
address of the printer's nic and anything you like as the Port Name (this
merely identifies the Standard TCP/IP port on your computer).

By default, the Standard TCP/IP port you create this way will be configured
for "RAW" (Port 9100) protocol. Some printer nics do not support this. If
that is the case for your printer, open the Printer's properties, select the
Port tab and click Configure Port. There you can select the lpr/;pd
protocol.
