Adding Memory

Hi there, I am running a HP 8755c which has 2 slots for memory. It
initially came with 2 64MB sticks which I updated to one 256 and one 128 MB.
My problem is that I am trying to install another 256 and for some
inexplicable reason it wont work. I have tried three different types the
latest is a Kingston KVR - PC133/256 -cr which according to their web site
is the correct one. I have switched slots to no avail. Everest lists the
installed memory but indicates the total to be 254 as does system resources.
I am using Win XP home with SP2 is there some trick required that wasn't
required with win ME? Please, any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks
in advance.

Check with HP, many times a computer has a maximum supported
amount of memory, and also a maximum sized module in any slot.

I have checked with HP and 512 is the allowable maximum the only difference
I can see on the specs of the two RAM sticks is the physical construction
the one that is working has 2 rows 4 banks the other 1 row 4 banks.

Your probably dealing with one Low-Density module and one
High-Density. Some motherboard chipsets cannot read the high
density modules correctly.
