adding language

Yoshi

I tried to add Japanese language in to my computer. In order to do that I
needed to insert windows XP CD-ROM, but I think I lost mine..I can't find it.
Do you know how to do it without CD-ROM? or do I have to buy another one for
this?
Thank you.

Try to search for "i386" folder in your PC. If you have, point to that folder when XP asked for CD.

Otherwise, you need to borrow CD from your friends. Good Luck.

Thanks MattK, but unfortunately it didin't work. My PC has i386 though. I
think my default setting installed only some language since it only has 20GB
capacity on Hard drive.
My PC also has fewer font type, etc. To add full language and font type etc,
needs CD-ROM, but I lost it....

Thank you Mr. Dyer, but I'm not trying to get Japanese version of Windows.
Windows XP has a program to show japanese charactors and switch keybord
between English and Japanese so I can type Japanese too. But, My PC only
installed languages using alphabet and skipped complicated ones, such as
Japanese, Chinese, Korian, etc. to save space on Hard drive. You can pull out
those langauge program from Windows XP CD-ROM and install them. I 've done
that with my family's laptop. Mine needs PC viesion CD-ROM which I lost. I
wonder if I can pull it out from Microsoft web site? or I have to buy CD-ROm
again?

Some language versions of Windows XP Professional might require installing
the Complex Script and Right-to-Left Language Collection or the East Asian
Language Collection [e.g., Japanese], as well as the appropriate input
languages, to properly input and display all characters.

Thank you for your help. But again unfortunately you told me what I know. As
you can see when you go to the sourse site you gave me, there is no
"Japanese" in the list to select. That's because default didn't install it
from CD but it's still in the CD.
With a PC which doesn't have East Asian Language file installed, you need to
go...

Start/Control Panel/Regional and Language Option/Language - supplemental
language support/check "install files for East Asian languages"/ Click Ok /

Then next screen ask you " insert CD" to pull out the file from the CD.
The problem I have is that I lost my Windows XP Home edition CD!
So I can't pull out the file from CD. I could buy another XP CD, but before
that,
I just wanted to know if I could get the file online or some other way.
Sorry if I'm confusing everyone!!
Thanks,
Yoshi

Does your family Laptop has "i386" folder? ("i386" folder is exact copy of
CD which contain
setup.exe and all .cab files and "\lang" folder for asian languages)

If so, copy that to CD (or even USB memory).

or your PC's "i386" folder contains setup.exe file and "\lang" folder?
If so, copy that to CD. Then try...

Good Luck!

Well, if MattK's suggestion doesn't help, you're either SOL or you'll need a
WinXP CD.
