Adding custom colour

D

Diana

I know how to add custom colours to the palette, however, what I don't know
is how to add it without it replacing another colour that's already in the
palette.

If I go into the palette with a colour I've selected ... for something that
isn't in the palette, and tell it to "add custom colour to the palette", it
will overwrite one that I added before. I've discovered the only way to
overcome this is to start without a colour, but this means having to write
the RGB for the colour before I reselect it.

Is there a way to overcome this? Thanks.

Hi Diana,

It isn't obvious what you need to do..but it will sure seem like it after
you know the "trick" :)

In the palette you have 16 boxes where you can add custom colors. You need
to click on the box where you want the color to be..before you actually
select the color. If you do this and then add the color it will go into the
box you picked..if you don't it will default to the first one..overwriting
your original choice!

Well ... thank you all for your responses. It would appear that I wasn't
very clear. I've tried all of what you suggest. I'll explain it again. I
don't really think there's a work-around. I think it's a querk in the MS
Office (as this happens in the other apps in the suite).

I will walk through the steps, hoping it will help. I have an item that has
a colour that I don't have in my custom colours - but I want to add it. So,
with the item selected, I click the fill tool and click the custom colours
tab. Now at this point, I have the color ... it's right there. The default
selected custom color box is always one that has a previously created custom
colour. I don't want to lose the colour that is selected (on the right side
of this screen). If I "don't" want to over-write an existing colour, I must
select a blank custom colour box (on the left). As soon as I click a blank
box (so that I can add a "new" custom colour), it empties my selection (on
the right) ... so I've lost what makes that colour (the RGB combo). I have
to write it down every down. This is entirely tedious!

I hope that explains it better. My apologies for not explaining it
properly.

It's a MSO std dialog
When the custom color dialog comes up
1st select the next available custom color block,
Then in the big "rainbow" color chart select the color HSL to get you in the ball park
Then in the small rgb color bar on the right select the actual color to add
(select the black pointer or slide it up/down)

Thanks Stefan.
I think I'll just do my long workaround, where I simply write down the RGB
components, click a blank box, enter the RGB values then add the customer
colour. It's a pain, but it works.
