Adding Counters

I have Front Page 2003 installed and want to add a hit counter to my web
page. My instructions says to go to the menu bar and click on Insert, next
got to Web Component and click on Hit Counter. My problem is that the Web
Component choice and most all the rest of the choices here are grayed out and
can not be activated. I tried reloading the Front Page software but it did
not help. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Tools, Page Options. Check all the boxes and change the drop down choices
to Custom

For Hit Counters you might want to try HitMe FP (it's free) at
http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/HitMeFP.htm

Just as a side note, Hit Counters are the most accurate things in the world.
You should really ask your web host if they offer a web stats program. It
will give you better (and more) information.

I thought atomic clocks were the most accurate things in the world. :>)

Ok. So we've determined that my typing skills aren't the most accurate
either. :)

Funny how they remember things you don't isn't it. My wife usually starts a
sentence with .. "I TOLD you about that "x" <insert timeframe> ago! And she
ends with ... "you just never listen to me ... " But when she forgets
things I've told her then it's an absolute fact that I never said that ...

Even worse is when they insist that they told you something and you know
without a doubt they didn't.
They might have thought about telling you but never actually did.

I'm 59 and Christie is 58. It's happening more often these days.
But, she's the ultimate sweetheart so....... ;-)

Even if it is happening more often Steve..sooner or later you will recall it
less often! I know that to be a fact cause my wife told me! <g>

Even better than a web stats program (most are cryptic): GoStats.com is
very easy to install and has a huge set of useful features. The newest
version is http://monster.gostats.com (creting an account and inserting
into your page is a snap).

I use gostats on my site http://tandcl.homemail.com.au/ and I would
recommend it also.

I have not tried the one referred to above.

I must admit though that I am still playing with creating my own Hit Counter
on the site in my signature

Mine was doing this same thing, you MUST pay attention to WHERE
your mouse cursor is when you go to the INSERT command,
if it is in the wrong place say down on the page part of a split screen
most of the objects will be grayed out.
place mouse in the code part of a split screen and make sure it is
exactly where you want the hit counter to be.
hope this helps it worked for me.

I should mention that in general (and GoStats specifically) the margin
of error with which a hit counter could have is more than made up for
by the fact that cached versions of viewed pages are also able to be
tracked.

Further, the ease of installation of the GoStats counter will certainly
make life much easier. (and hence more likely that it will be
installed properly)

For a well run counter service like GoStats it is likely that the
accuracy of the counting & reporting is equal to, or suprior to the
most common http log. Plus near-realtime stats with GoStats are a plus
;) To see an exmaple report, go to http://monster.gostats.com then
click on the counter image at the very bottom of the page.

This is funny. All a matter of perspective. I always threaten to record it
when I tell my husband something.
