Adding a fixed amount to a number of records.

I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to select a few records in a
table (eg. Everybody with the same job title) and then give them all a
fixed raise (eg. $1000). How would I go about it?

Thanks!

Create a query that includes the fields JobTitle and Salary. Set the
criteria of JobTitle to the one you want to give a raise to. Convert the
query to an Update query. Where it says Update To under Salary, put this
expression:
[Salary]+1000

Steve, why are you advertising and job-hunting again?

-- You abuse this group and others for job-hunting and advertising over and over again
-- You are insulting lots of people here when they ask you to stop this
-- You hide your identity while asking questions

-- You posted as Steve, Ron, Tom, Rachel, Kathy, Kristine, Heather and ???
(the latest 'star' is: 'Access Resource')
-- There even has been a 'Scam-alert' about you

So why would ANYBODY ever trust you and hire you?

I think you're getting a little carried away, Arno.

Yes, Steve does everything you describe, but he didn't in this post.

I'd suggest reserving your vitriol for those occasions where he actually is
advertising. His 4 line signature doesn't qualify as advertising.

I can understand what you are writing Doug, and I fully agree with you on the sig-line.
When you click the link I provide, or re-read the thread "Stop Steve, how ??? (if you feel like that....) you will understand.
In that thread I announced a plan to stop Steve, which is in fact this:
==> Hunt *every* post of PC, no matter if he is advertising.
==> UNTIL he stops the adds.
*All* other attempts to stop him have failed, remember?
So this is really NOT about the sig. I have stated that before. It's an effort to stop the advertising.

After the threads 'Stop Steve ....' we haven' t seen him (as PC DataSheet ...) around here much since April 20
His advertising posts stopped from April 14 until last week or so.
In fact, he was gone... We did not see him in the groups for about a month.
As 'Access Resource' (plain advertising / job hunting) he pops up in the groups again starting may 20.
Also we can see him as 'Tom' ([email protected]).
Starting may 21 he finally shows up in the groups as PCDataSheet again ....
Last week was the first advertising 'as PC' again.

He learned NOTHING AT ALL. He is just trying to start this thing all over ...
==> Yesterday he posted 3 times in this group, advertising as PCDatasheet.
==> This is like the old story again...
==> We can let him do so, or we can try to stop him.
==> I am trying the latter, again.... aaarrrrrrggggghhhhh.

PS: I will change the text (first line needs to be adapted for the cases when Steve is not advertising...)

The rough structure of the query would be something like

UPDATE tblEmployee
SET salary = salary + 100
WHERE jobTitle = "Office Slave

Doug,

Thank you for responding!

Do you know who the Monitor is of this newsgroup?

There isn't one. As it says at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/gallery/components/wn/2/locales/help_en-US.htm#RulesofConduct

"Microsoft does not offer formal support for the communities you'll find
here. Instead, our role is to provide a platform for people who want to take
advantage of the global community of Microsoft customers and product
experts. Microsoft may monitor content to ensure the accuracy of the

Having said that, recognize that, as I've mentioned before, I (and many of
the other Access MVPs) agree with Arno that you abuse these newsgroups by
advertising in them. I only made the comment to Arno because this time your
post was acceptable.
