adding a component from XP Professional to Home edition

Is it possible to add rdp or remote access feature found in XP
Professional into an XP Home Edition?
I do not think it can be done easily.

No. If you desire to have the unique features found in
Windows XP Professional, you'll need to purchase a
"retail upgrade version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform an upgrade.

Or even go to a Linux distro which has Remote desktop as a component of the
KDE window manager.....

That can't be done, but if you are looking for remote access there are other
options available besides MS's remote desktop that should work. There are a
number of VNC applications available. Options here include:

You might also try services such as those available at
http://www.logmein.com.
