Adding a 2.0 USB card

I added a USB 2.0 card to my older computer. It's a P3 1gh machine.
It has the original USB built in to the Motherbd. with 2 ports.
The add on card has 5 ports, (4 on the rear one inside the case).

My question is whether I can still use the old ports as well as the
new ones? The old ones worked fine for my camera card reader, and was
fast enough for those smaller files. I'm running out of ports
(plugs), so moving that card reader over there would help.

Thanks

Sure. I did the same thing with my Dell 4100. Worked great.

It would probably have taken less time to actually try to use them than
it did to post the question. They will either work or they won't. If
they work the first time then you have it made. If they don't you will
have to fiddle with them in the BIOS and/or operating system for some
indeterminate period of time and in the end they will either work or
they won't...

Hi Meeks,

There is no reason why you can't use all the USB ports, both motherboard
mounted ones and PCI card ones. However, in your situation I'd be more
inclined to just use the USB 2 ports, adding a powered hub if needed for
more devices. There really is a huge speed difference between USB 1(.1) and
USB 2. Also, a powered hub could sit on your desk and make it a lot easier
to plug and unplug those peripherals.

In theory, it "should" work perfectly.
