Add shortcut to My Computer

Thanks Leonard, but that doesn't work on my system -- dragging into My
Computer yeilds the crossed-circle icon and attempts to copy/paste don't work
either -- those options are greyed out.

You didn't ask about "dragging into My Computer". You asked how to make
"a shortcut to My Computer".

A shortcut to My Computer opens My Computer when double-clicked. The
method I gave you does exactly that.

If you are asking about something else, try re-phrasing your question.

Hi Leonard,

I see how my query was prone to misinterpretation -- sorry about that
("Errare humanum est", indeed!). What I mean to ask about is how to place a
shortcut to another folder into the "My Computer" folder.

My Computer is a system folder. You can't add anything to it, other than
a shortcut to Control Panel.

What is the simplest way to add a shortcut to "My Computer" in Win XP Pro?

Not at all simple but...

"In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason
backwards. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a
very easy one, but people do not practise it much. In the every-day affairs
of life it is more useful to reason forwards, and so
the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason
synthetically for one who can reason analytically." - Sherlock
