Add/Remove list not complete

O

Old Geaser

I just did a complete reinstall of Mic. XP Home. After reinstalling and
adding programs, I find the add/remove list is not complete. The last item
is Microsoft Works. I have a few programs in the All Programs list that
are installed and the name is past the letter M.

I ran the program Registry mechanic and there was 2 items listed for the
add/remove programs with errors that title is R and S.

Is there a way I can get a complete listing of programs that are installed?
Thanks in advance,

Old Geaser

Alan,

Thanks for the reply. I went to kellys site and I think I am in to
something over my head. I run the regedit. There was 2 entries.

1 Default type Reg_sz (Value not set)
2 Common files Directory Reg_ sz C:\ Program Files\Common files

Kelley mentions Display icon having a negative number either remove the
negative number or remove the last application listed. The last item
common files is a list of about 12 programs that is installed. Not sure if
he meant to delete the value not set or not. I get a little nervous
working in the registry.

I do have the program Registry Mechanic and use it often. I have seen where
some people say never use a registry program.

I just reinstalled a program that name begins with R and it never showed up
in add/remove. Do not know where to go from here. Thanks

You get nervous working in the Registry and you are brave enough or
clever enough or foolhardy enough to use Registry Mechanic?
That doesn't make sense to me.
OT, why do you see the need to use such a program?

Export the Uninstall key for safety, then you can work with it.

I really have no idea what you mean by "there were two entries"
You must have more than that under the Uninstall key or you wouldn't
see anything at all.
Were there any keys with negative numbers in DisplayIcon?
(particularly -1)
If so, what were they?

Alan,

I revisited the registry. I found 2 Current Versions. One below the other.
The first had 2 entries. The 2nd had the Uninstall.

The uninstall has a great many entries. There is no Display Icon listed.

Under Uninstall it starts with about 40 items with about 30 numbers and
letters, then installed programs, then a lot of items ie KB898461 etc. then
more installed items. No Display Icon in the list.

Maybe I should do another reinstall of win xp and not install the registry
mechanic program. I have a program called Microsoft train simulator that
has a associated program that I cannot get going and have been working with
the person that wrote the program. I think I will reinstall Thanks

I don't think you are looking correctly.
It is not "Display Icon". It is a value called "DisplayIcon" and you
won't see it in the Uninstall list unless you either open each item in
Uninstall and look or you search for "DisplayIcon".

You appear to have all the Uninstall entries and I believe you have a
chance of fixing this if you try. A reinstall is the last thing I
would try, but that is your choice.
Best of luck.
