Add Photo Album: Eliminating the Border?

J

J. Danniel

Hi everyone.

I'm using the Insert/Picture/New Photo Album feature in Power Point
2002. I've set the Album/Picture Layout option to 1 Picture, and the
Frame Shape to Rectangle.

This creates a very minor but annoying problem that I'd like help
fixing.

When the photo album is created, a thick black border is placed around
each image. The images are screen captures I made with Jasc Paint
Shop Pro 8.

Paint Shop Pro has an Add Borders feature; I've already created
borders for these images. The borders are thin and red.

The thin, red borders are gone, replaced by the thick black border
that was created by the Photo Album.

Is there any way at all I can disable this option, or make
modifications, so that no border is added by Power Point, so I can see
the thin, red borders instead? I specifically added my own thickness
and color with PSP 8 for a reason.

If you need more information, or want to see the .ppt file, please
e-mail me. Thank you for your assistance! Jd

The solution is easy, but very tedious if you have imported a number of
images. Select image, select the Line Color tool and set to No Line, done.
Repeat for every picture inserted with PhotoAlbum...

Here are two add-ins (not free) that handle importing images, without the
limitations of the built-in PhotoAlbum:
1. PowerTools Import/Export -

2. Shyam's Image Importer Wizard - http://www.mvps.org/skp/iiw.htm

Right click on the pictures and select Format. Then change the line to
none.Your border should show up. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to
make the autoshapes that are created using the PhotoAlbum use the defaults I
set up, so there is no way to tell it not to add the black line in the first
place.

That said, there is another solution (a better one in my mind). Instead of
using the Photo Album feature, look at using Shyam's Image Importer Wizard.
Great tool, and should let you come closer to what you want. More

I'll be darned if I can get the .ppa file added to the Add-Ins list.
It's just not showing up in the Add-Ins menu.

Is it because this is the trial version and I haven't paid for it yet?

Assuming you mean the PPA for the Image Importer Wizard...It isn't because
it is the trial version. It is because you haven't installed it. Find the
IIWSetup.exe that was downloaded to your computer, double click it and let
it run. Now, open PPT and go to the add-ins. Add the IIW add-in from where
it was extracted (most likely somewhere in your Programs directory). Then it
should be able to be used.

Be sure to lower your macro security setting to medium or low and reply
"enable macros" when prompted. The security setting of "high" will not
allow you to add the add-in, but it won't tell you.

Hi Jack,

do you need additional text on your slides? PPT uses the "text and title"
color for the frames. If you change that to white (or your background
color), the frames will be invisible. I know, it's not an option, if you
need to add a title.

Another option would be using any other shape - the frame is only added to
rectangles. But I guess that's not an option for you, either.

If none of those two options helps, drop me a line to my private mail
(change the last two letters of my reply address to "de"!), I might have a
sample file with another solution for you to try.

Kind regards,
Ute

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

PowerPoint doesn't provide the functionality that you are looking for
(Photo Album slides with no frames around images) without resorting to VBA
or add-ins.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint provide provide an option to create a photo album w/o framed
images or make the album in such a way that it's easier to change the
formatting of all frames without having to edit each one individually,
etc... (without having to resort to VBA or add-ins), don't forget to send
your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
