AD accessing internet. Why ?

Dear fellow networkers,
My firewall tells my ad-users/computers mmc is accesing the internet.
If not allowed my users are not there. Whats happening ? Since when
does microsoft need to know my AD ?

We'd need more details in order to determine what's happening. Does your
firewall indicate the destination IP and port for the outgoing traffic?

One scenario is if the DC locator couldn't contact a DC in the local site
and decided to try a DC out of site.

Can you post your DNS configuration on your server ? Ipconfig /all from your
server will be enough. Make sure, that you are not pointing your
server/clients to your ISP dns server, but only to your internal DNS server.
