Activities tabs in public folders

We are using Outlook 2007 with Exchange Server 2003. It is not possible to
view items from public folders under a contact's activity tab in a public
folder. We can only see local mail items. This is not a how-to issue, as we
had no problems with Outook 2003. The public folders are simply not being
accessed.

Do you have an group to show items specifically from that folder? An activities group cannot mix mailbox and public folders.

Yes. We have a group for Calendar and one for Tasks, both in public folders.
I can see the Items for MySentEmail, which is local.

What happens if you create a new activity group as a test? Are these folders in Public Folders\Favorites? Cached Exchange mode?

Thanks Sue. I have been testing. When I look at the activities of a public
contact, I can see the appropriate My-email (Sent items), and also my local
tasks linked to this public contact. But I cannot see any public tasks or
activities. It's not that the program looks and finds nothing - it seems to
be a public folder issue: I do not even get the white box where items would
be listed - just the blue background space.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Cached Exchange mode". Can you elaborate?

Many thanks.

You can see on the account settings whether you are using Cached Exchange mode, which connects to the server not directly but through a local .ost file.

It would be useful to get the answers to my other two questions as well. Remember that you cannot mix personal and public folders in an activity group.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for your efforts on this.

Each group refers to a single thing, eg: mycompany tasks - look in public
folder, mycompanytasks. We are not combining different item types.

I did set up some new groups for tests. I cannot link a public contact to
any public item - calendar or task, but I can see myactivities and
mysentemail from a public contact when I set up a group for these folders.
(Eg: KDH tasks - look in Personal Folder Tasks).

I think we are using cached exchange mode, because there are options listed
under "Cached exchange mode" under the Outlook "File" menu, eg: "Download
Full Items" is selected.

What about the other way: linking a public appointment to a publiic contact?

No - this is the essence of the problem. No pubic items linked to a contact
can be seen in that public contact's activities, even though the links are
good, and the group set-ups for activities are fine. This was working with no
problem in Outlook 2003.

Sorry, meant to add that we are not using a "Favourites" folder, just the
"All Public Folders" all of this.

Any further thoughts on this? It is a HUGE problem for us. It must have
something to do with public folders and the Exchange server. What changed
between Outlook versions 2003 and 2007?
