ActiveX

Pat Miller

I am not a "new user", I am a novice user. If there is a better forum
please advise and I will resend it there..

When I try to install a new program I get "Runtime error "429" "ActiveX
component can't create object".

Where do I go to download an ActiveX component? If there is more than one
how will I know which to download?

Regards,
Pat Miller

Runtime Error 429: ActiveX component cannot create object
[[This error message indicates that a required software component is not
properly registered or installed.]]
Where do I go to download an ActiveX component?

There are literally thousands of ActiveX components. They can be *.ocx,
*.dll or *.cpl files.

Which one do you want?

It would help if you NAMED the program that you are trying to install.

Hi Wes,
the program is :
Free Register Fix (it is not free - it cost $29.00)

I've had the program for 9mos. The new revision is what I downloaded -
clicked on "install" and got the Runtime error message.

Your help with problem is greatly appreciated.

Pat,

Free Registry Fix?

Too bad you spent the money.

I would forget about even trying to install it. It would probably screw up
more than it would fix.

Such programs are more apt to cause problems than fix them.

I agree with everyone else, a program that repairs the registry is more apt
to cause all kinds of problems. This is really true if the PC has be setup
for a while. I have used Registry Fix after a fresh install of XP Pro and
being careful what I allowed it to fix, got away with using it.
If you are insistent about using a registry cleaner, there is free one
called "EasyCleaner" that does not seem to cause as many problems as some of
the more aggressive ones. Again it is best to start using it on a fresh
install of the OS.
Good Luck
