"ActiveX is probably working properly, but not scripting. "

I am suffering from some severe problems using IE6 SP1 : I can't browse
several web pages (example : http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) as I only
do get a blank webpage.

Therefore I went to the pcpitstop webpage (http://www.pcpitstop.com) and was
trying to run a test on my pc, but I always do get the some error message :
"ActiveX is probably working properly, but not scripting. Check your
security settings for scripting."

So I changed those security settings but apparently IE6 does accept the
changes but still doesn't resolve the problem, even after restarting my pc,
I don't seem to be able to check the necessarily websites.

My biggest problem is that I downloaded the install packages of McAfee
Antivirus and Firewall, but can't get them installed due to the fact that
those packages do use the IE settings, and have been in contact with the
McAfee Support Desk on multiple occasions to have the problem solved.
Neither they do find a solution although quit experienced support engineers.

I am a little bit lost as I did try everything what I could think of :
disable firewall (doesn't cause the problem), reinstall/repair of IE6 SP1
(doesn't solve the problem), installed and registered PC Doctor On Call (a
software tool especially developed to check Active X problems and to fix
those kind of problems) but it neither does solve the problem.

I already checked my pc on the sasser virus (by using the tool provided by
Microsoft on their webpage) but couldn't find any affected files, I checked
on spyware and addware neither this does seem to cause any problems ...
neither the automated updates from Microsoft seem to solve my problem.

I do get the impression that I do miss (deleted) some files on my pc which
are needed to have my IE running in the way it should be.

I really would appreciate it when someone could come back to me with a
solution or a temporarily work around to get this problem sorted as I
already did spend several days hoping to have the problem sorted.
