ActiveX controls

okay, I got so frustrated with this problem that I even
followed instructions and even consulter a tech support
(who ended up agreeing with everything I said). It seems
like it's not really IE itself acting up but maybe an
external adware/spyware acting upon it. What's going on
is no matter how many times I reset the security
settings, ActiveX controls are somehow disabled (though
IE says they're enabled) This is annoying cause I can't
run windows update or my virusscan update. (granted I
manually updated the virus scan and found no viruses..
but I did find over 200 adwares. deleting all of them
still didn't help. Also, Spybot S&D did it's cleaning and
didn't help)

any ideas other than a reformat? (which I'm on the verge
of doing.)

This problem was apparent before I installed my AV.
I'm trying a myriad of spyware/hijacker buster programs...
so far every new one I try has found something lurking....
I come home from OIF in Iraq to find my wife's computer
infested worse than I ever imagined.

--------------------
new problem arose.
--------------------
when trying to update DirectX or even IE (or anything
system related) it claims:
"The software you are installing has not passed Windows
Logo
testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. (tell
me why
this testing is important.)

This software will not be installed. Contact your system
administrator."

I've never seen this before....more so confusing that the
latest microsoft software updates bring this up.

I also ran into bootup problems. if bootup under anything
but safemode, when I click on a user account, the system
reboots (not a P/S problem, I'm running 400W)

though I know these aren't related to IE 6.0, possibly
whatever is messing with IE is screwing upt the rest of
the system.

I don't know of any spyware program that catches everything. That's what
makes HijackThis so useful.
