ActiveX Control in PowerPoint 2002

I am trying to insert some basic activeX controls in a powerpoint
presentation (command buttoms, scroll bars, etc). I also want to include some
code to specify actions for each control (eg. caption changing when button is
clicked). The scripts work fine when I first create the file and run the
presentation. My problem occurs if I save the file and re-open it. Now when I
run the presentation, the buttons don't work. All the code is still there but
none of the code seems to get executed. Not sure what I'm missing.

Try turning fast saves OFF. Fast saves may corrupt the file.
To turn it off, go to Tools > Options.
Go to Save tab, and under save options, uncheck "Allow fast saves".

Now, save your presentation again to see if it works.

I tried that and it still doesn't work. I'm wondering if I'm missing a
security setting? I've tried a couple of different files. The ActiveX
controls always work fine when the file is first created but don't function
if the file is closed and then re-opened.

Have you checked your Tools, Macro, Security settings?
If set to High, your macros will be shut down by PPT, no questions asked.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did check that and no luck. I'm starting to
think I'm missing some update or something.

If you're using PPT2003 you'll definitely want to do Help, Check for Updates and
let it install the recommended patches.

But first, are you testing in SlideShow view (ie, not normal view)?

Are you testing in PPT and not the free Viewer? Viewer doesn't support macros or
ActiveX.

I have used the update tool and I suppose that everything I have is current.

I am talking specifically about Slideshow view. For some reason, the activeX
controls only work when the presentation is first made but not after the
presentation has been closed and re-opened. I am using Powerpoint itself and
not the free viewer. I was aware that the free viewer didn't support ActiveX
controls. Not sure if I need to enable something to get the controls to work
consistently in Powerpoint itselft. My macro security is set to medium but
even a low setting doesn't rectify the problem.

Well, perhaps it's something obvious that I'm missing. I simply don't know.
Thanks again for the all the suggestions.

Well, we've moved all the easy ones off the dance floor, haven't we? ;-)

Can you post a small example that illustrates the problem someplace where a few
of us can download it and have a look?
