activex and winxp sp2

John P.

Hi,
Just installed WinXP SP 2 and ran into a problem: Usually, when I open IE6,
it starts with a small page on the local pc that's based on active x
scripting.
Now, everytime I open IE, I get the "To help protect your security, Internet
Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could
access your computer. Click here for options..." bar on top of the
browser...

Anyone knows what to do to prevent that information/bar from showing up?

Thanks,
John

Click on the Information bar and choose Allow. This is default behavior in
SP2. You might wanna peruse...

I've tried selecting "allow active content on My Computer.." in IE's
advanced properties and that wouldn't do the trick.
Having to click the bar, then click allow, then click yes is very annoying
everytime I open the browser in order for the homepage to display
correctly... I hope there'll be a fix for it.

Try...

Tools>Internet Options>Security>[zone]>Custom>...

Use Security and Privacy Features in Internet Explorer 6 (WinXP)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/security/ie6.asp

Working with Internet Explorer 6 Security Settings

Setting Up Security Zones
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/security/setup.asp

and, again,

FWIW I only had to click on Allow once for my homepage (a local file) and
the choice is retained upon rebooting.

Apparently it will refrain from showing the error everytime one opens IE6 if
the "BrowseNewProcess" in the Registry has the "YES" value - if it's "NO",
on the less resource hungry, being run in one process instead of one for
every ie window, it's going to show that error. Very strange how the two
relate, though.
