active mixers device

My speakers no longer work and when I go to turn up the
volume it tells me "no active mixer devices available".
When I go into add hardware it is seeing that everything
is working properly but it still tells me the same thing.
I am stuck help.

I have the same problem!
I just installed XP Pro and have an audio device yet the
computer tells me I have none. However, under 'other
devices' I have an unknown device 'multimedia audio
controller.' I tried updating the driver, but nothing
was found. Now what? I want to delete it and see if it
reappears when I reboot.
