Active Directory Running but no Domain Controllers!!!

O

Ola

Hello all,

I have inadvertently deleted the DNS setting in my win2k
with Active Directory. I have however managed (so I
think) to install DNS again. However when I looked in
Active Directory Users and Computers, under Domain
Controllers, there is no entry at all.

Please someone tell me how I can get this domain
controller back.

Thank you

Ola

Create a ZONE (right click follow the prompts), as Primary
with DYNAMIC updates.

Make sure all the DCs "NIC properties" point to the correct
DNS server IP address and re-start the NetLogon service.

(Also make sure ALL DNS clients point there too and perform
ipconfig /registerDNS
....on any that use dynamic registration.)

Remember: Servers are DNS clients too!!!

Hi,

If you are talking about forward lookup and reverse lookup
zones, they do exist in DNS. otherwise, are you saying to
create a zone in domain controllers?

Thank you

Well you said you deleted DNS, and I thought you meant
that you saw no entries in the DNS server.

This (alone) would have nothing to do with what shows in
AD (except through the failure to replicate).

DCs appear in the DC OU (by default, and should not be moved.)
If they are not there, then that DC, and maybe all of AD is hosed.

Did you also deleted AD objects? (Not just DNS?)

Have you considered a restore from backup of System State?
You do have a backup, right?
