Active Directory is not working

Glenn

I am having a problem with a site...

Whenever I try to go into AD Sites & Services or AD Users and
Computers I receive the following error.

Naming Information cannot be located because:
The Target Principal name is incorrect.

This is the only doman controller, and is causing problems on the
local network.

In the event log, the KCC errors 1265, 1311 and 1566 are repeating
themselves at 15 min intervals.

It apears that someone tried to either add another domain controller
at another site/subnet and then removed the machine. I am unable to
get into AD to remove the offending link to settle thing down.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try NTDSUtil FROM the working DC -- use Metadata cleanup
to remove abandoned objects like DCs and Sites.

Unfortunately there is no other/working DC. The only DC
in the domain is the one that is having the problem.

I am unable to demote the DC as it thinks that there is
still another DC, and I am unable to promote another
server to be a DC as it fails at the end with the same
error.

Any other thoughts are appreciated.
