Activation

I have recently had some system issue with one my system.
during the period of time that my system was down I put
together a PC from spare parts I had and installed my
windows XP on it.
I have since resolved the issue with my Main system and
removed the Xp from the spare and put 98 back on it.
But I am unable to activate my store bought version of
windows Xp pro as it says I have went over the maximum
nuber of activations. What can I do to resolve this?
I am not going to buy another copy as they are a bit
expensive.
