Hi,

I have this problem on my laptop. It's been registered & activated by my
dealer. Now we all know hes done that for a reason. I just wanted to do it
again in my name. Any ideas? I tried /oobe/msoobe /r & registered in my name
& address but when I try /oobe/msoobe /a it says windows is already activated.

Thanks & Regards

You can't activate it again. It is activated for the computer, not some
person, be it you or the dealer.

Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to play with validation to keep
your mind off activation.

Activation is by machine not user so it doesn't matter that you weren't
the one to initially activate it. Registration doesn't really mean
anything except for MS for marketing.

Where do you see that? What "darn thing"? If you're referring to the
name of the computer, that is easily changed. If you're referring to an
account, that is easily changed too.

Follow this link, Line 7 Right column
Change registered owner...

You can change it in the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
on the RegisteredOwner key.

To fix the "Registered to" information for WinNT/2K/XP,
you can use Start > Run > Regedit.exe to edit:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner

and:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\RegisteredOrganization

How this will affect the name displayed in previously installed
applications will vary depending upon each individual program; some
read the registered owner information dynamically, while others read
it only during installation.
