Activating screen savers now fails

M

Mark Marsh

Folks-
I have an up to date Win2k installation. Until recently I was able to start a
screen saver by clicking on the appropriate .scr file. Now each and every one
says it is not configured and comes up with a properties dialog. Saving the
dialog and clicking on the .scr file again gets you the same message.

The screen savers still work if the timeout expires, or if run as a preview
from the video control center.

Any clues what is happening and how I can fix it?
Thanks!

Hi Mark,

It sounds as though you have lost the specific file association for .SCR
files. Here is an article to check to see if this is the issue:

HOW TO: Change File Associations in Windows 2000 WGID:323
ID: 320033.KB.EN-US
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;320033

Please review the article and see if this applies!
Thanks,

Sounds like maybe the file association registry key for *.scr isnot right.
Compare the HKCR entry against a working machine.
