Acronis True Image Oddity

I used True Image to back up my Win XP 12G NTFS System Partition to separate
internal HD formatted NTFS. The resulting image is 5,113,960KB. I then did
the same thing to a FAT32 USB external drive and got two files -- one
4,194,304KB and the other 820,934KB for a total of 5,015,238KB. That
surprised me. I kind of expected the sum of the two FAT32 to be a slight
bit larger than the single NTFS file because of the information needed by
True Image to connect the two files.

No big deal. I just wonder if someone would explain why this happens.

True Image "Spans" or breaks apart Image modules (.tib) at a fixed
size so they'll fit onto external media ( CD/DVD-R ). The end result
size of the Images depends on the Compression level selected and
what type of data is on the volume being imaged. Certain types of
data will not compress as well as others. My Windows XP drive
(8.1 Gigabytes) will image to a single 4.1 Gigabyte Tib. Using the
same compression my dedicated Music volume ( 9.2 Gigabytes) will
result in two Tib modules each around 4.5 Gigabytes. ( Far less of a
compressed result ).

Yes, I was aware of what you said. My problem was with the total of the
spanned/split images on the FAT32 drive being LESS than the
unspanned/unsplit image on the NTFS drive when I thought the total might be
a little more. The same compression level was used for both and one
immediately followed the other in time.

Thank you. I have been unable to find a forum devoted to True Image on my
ISP's news server. If you know of one, would you please tell me the name of
it and I will ask my ISP to get. They have been very happy to do that in
the past.
